Conducted between June 2011 and March 2013 at 191 sites in 27 countries in Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Australia this was a randomised, placebo-controlled trial designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 3mg liraglutide 'injected subcutaneously once daily, as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, for weight management in overweight or obese adults who did not have diabetes at baseline.' A total of 3,731 individuals participated in the trial, of whom 2,487 were assigned to lifestyle intervention plus liraglutide and 1,244 to lifestyle intervention with a placebo
